Text diff checker
Compare two pieces of text and see exactly which lines were added, removed or changed.
What is the text diff checker used for?
A diff checker compares two versions of a text and highlights what is different. Writers use it to see what an editor changed, developers use it to compare code or configuration files, and students and professionals use it to check two drafts of an essay, a contract or a list.
Paste the original text on the left and the changed text on the right. Lines that were removed are shown in red with a minus sign, lines that were added are shown in green with a plus sign, and unchanged lines are shown normally.
Why use this one
It shows the result instantly as you type and can ignore trailing spaces and capital letters, which cuts noise from the comparison. Your text is compared in your browser and is never uploaded, so it is safe for private drafts and documents.
Frequently asked questions
How does the comparison work?
The tool finds the longest set of lines that appear in both texts in the same order. Everything else is shown as removed from the original or added in the changed text.
Does it compare words inside a line?
This version compares whole lines. If one word in a line changes, the old line is shown as removed and the new line as added.
Can I ignore capital letters or extra spaces?
Yes. Tick Ignore upper and lower case, or Ignore spaces at the line ends, to hide those differences.
How much text can I compare?
Up to about 1,500 lines on each side at once, which covers most documents and configuration files.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. The comparison is done in your browser, and nothing is stored or uploaded.
