What is the date difference calculator used for?

A date difference calculator tells you how much time lies between two dates. People use it to count the days to an exam, a deadline, a delivery or a holiday, to work out notice periods and loan or lease terms, and to find how long ago something happened.

Enter a start and an end date to see the total days, the weeks and days, the years, months and days, and the number of working days from Monday to Friday. The second part adds or subtracts a number of days from any date, for example to find a due date 45 days after an invoice.

Why use this one

Both directions are on one page: the gap between two dates, and the date that falls a number of days from a given date. It includes a working-days count, and it runs in your browser with no sign-up.

Frequently asked questions

How do I count the days between two dates?

Enter the start and end dates. The tool subtracts them and shows the total number of days. The end date is not counted twice, so 1 January to 2 January is 1 day.

Does it count working days?

Yes. The Working days box counts Monday to Friday between the two dates. Public holidays are not excluded, so subtract those yourself.

How do I find a date 90 days from now?

In Add or subtract days, choose a start date, enter 90 and choose Add days. The resulting date is shown with its weekday.

Are leap years handled correctly?

Yes. The calculation uses the real calendar, so 29 February is included in leap years.

Can the end date be before the start date?

Yes. The total days is then shown as a negative number, meaning the end date is in the past relative to the start date.
