Lorem ipsum generator
Generate placeholder text by paragraphs, sentences or words for designs, layouts and mock-ups.
What is the lorem ipsum generator used for?
Lorem ipsum is placeholder text used by designers and developers to fill a layout before the real content is ready. It looks like normal text, so the design can be judged without the distraction of readable copy. It is taken from a work of the Roman writer Cicero and has been used in printing since the 1500s.
Choose how many paragraphs, sentences or words you need and press Generate. You can start with the classic opening line, Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, or use random words only, then copy the text into your design.
Why use this one
You can generate by paragraphs, sentences or exact word counts, which is handy for filling a headline, a card or a long article. It runs in your browser, with no sign-up, and you get new text every time.
Frequently asked questions
What is lorem ipsum?
It is dummy text that resembles Latin. It is used to show how a page will look with text on it, without using real content.
Why not just repeat a short sentence?
Repeated text makes a layout look unnatural. Lorem ipsum has a natural spread of word and sentence lengths, so it gives a more realistic preview.
Does lorem ipsum mean anything?
It is scrambled text derived from a passage of Cicero, so it has no useful meaning. Replace it with real content before you publish.
Is it safe to leave lorem ipsum on a live page?
No. Search engines and visitors see it as unfinished content, so always replace placeholder text before launch.
Can I generate an exact number of words?
Yes. Choose Words and enter the number, for example 50 words for a product description preview.
